Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 September 2026
Margin Notes is an independent publication written and operated by Adrián García-Velasco ("I", "me"). This policy explains what personal data the site collects, why, who it's shared with, and the rights you have over it. It applies to marginnotes.es and its subdomains.
Data controller
Adrián García-Velasco, based in Madrid, Spain, is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. For any privacy question or request, contact marginnotesjournal@gmail.com.
What data is collected
Margin Notes collects personal data in exactly two places, both of which require you to take an action first. Simply reading the site does not submit any personal data.
- Newsletter signup. If you subscribe, your email address is collected and sent to Kit (the email service used to manage the newsletter list and send issues).
- Contact form. If you send a message, your name, email address, subject, and message text are collected and delivered to my inbox via Resend (a transactional email service).
No account system, comment section, or reader profile exists on the site, so no other personal data is collected through it.
Cookies and analytics
Margin Notes does not use cookies, does not run any advertising script, and does not build reader profiles. The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to see aggregate traffic — page views, referring sites, general location and device type — which works without cookies and without collecting any personal data that could identify an individual visitor. No consent banner is shown because none is needed: nothing about you personally is tracked. The only other technical data generated is standard web server logging — see "Hosting" below.
Why this data is processed, and for how long
- Newsletter: processed on the basis of your consent (opting in via the subscribe form), for the purpose of sending you new Margin Notes issues. Your email is kept until you unsubscribe, which you can do at any time via the link in any newsletter email or by contacting me directly.
- Contact form: processed on the basis of consent and my legitimate interest in responding to messages sent to me, for the purpose of reading and replying to your message. Messages are kept only as long as reasonably needed to handle the correspondence, and are deleted when no longer needed.
Who this data is shared with
Personal data is shared only with the service providers needed to operate the site's two forms, each acting as a data processor on my behalf:
- Kit — stores and manages newsletter subscriber emails and sends newsletter issues.
- Resend — delivers contact form submissions to my inbox by email.
- Vercel — hosts the website (see "Hosting" below).
Data is never sold, rented, or shared with any other third party, and is never used for advertising.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, automatically logs standard technical data for security and reliability purposes — such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps — for every visitor. This is processed under legitimate interest and is not linked to your identity beyond what's inherent in a server log.
International data transfers
Kit, Resend, and Vercel are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, these providers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area (or anywhere with similar data protection law), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data held about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. by unsubscribing)
To exercise any of these rights, email marginnotesjournal@gmail.com. If you believe your data has been mishandled, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD), or your local supervisory authority.
Children
Margin Notes is not directed at children, and personal data is not knowingly collected from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time as the site or the services it uses change. The date at the top of this page reflects the last update.
